Insly's Ledger Product API documentation - Introduction

This document is created to describe Ledger product flow and API endpoints in detail for different activities related to creating the quote, getting the calculation, changing quote data and issuing policies.

Important to note is the fact that the services are asynchronized, meaning that it is necessary to use /actions request described in pt. 4 LINK in order to verify that the asynchronized actions have been finalized and it is possible to move forward with next steps.

What is Insly’s Ledger Product?

Insly’s Ledger Product is the core engine behind quote and policy management. It allows MGAs and insurers to:

  • Generate quotes for brokers
  • Modify and recalculate premiums
  • Finalise and issue policies

It’s a powerful API-first solution that connects smoothly into your own portals, back-office systems, or broker workflows.

Why It’s Different

  • Built for Insurance - Supports complex property, liability, and bespoke commercial lines
  • Asynchronous Processing - Fast response times even for heavy calculations
  • Flexible Data Handling - Update quotes and policies at any stage of the lifecycle
  • Secure & Scalable - Works across multiple tenants with JWT-based access control

How It Works (In Simple Terms)

  1. Start a Quote A broker or underwriter triggers a new quote.
  2. System Does the Work The backend begins calculating and preparing the quote. This happens in the background so nothing slows down.
  3. Track Progress The system gives you a status update, once it’s done, you’re notified.
  4. Make Changes You can tweak quote values or add extra information.
  5. Get a Price Once everything’s in, you get a calculated premium.
  6. Issue a Policy With a click (or an API call), you turn that quote into a live policy.

Use Cases

  • Quoting and binding for property insurance
  • Delegated authority workflows for MGAs
  • Broker submission processing in real time
  • Automated underwriting via portal integrations
